Nagpur: In a bold operation on Thursday morning, the Nagpur City Crime Branch raided a warehouse in the Lakadganj area and seized a massive cache of rotten betel nuts valued at ₹71.80 lakh.
The raid was carried out under the supervision of Police Inspector Gulhane and on the directives of Police Commissioner Ravindra Singhal.
Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch team swooped down on the Vikrant Transport godown located in the Small Factory Area on Old Bhandara Road. During the operation, police discovered 359 gunny bags filled with decayed betel nuts. Preliminary investigations suggest the material was meant for manufacturing pan masala and khara—both considered hazardous to human health.
Following the raid, the seized goods and suspects were handed over to the Lakadganj Police for further investigation. Police are now probing the supply network behind this large consignment and tracing the origins of the stock.
Officials believe this successful operation has dealt a major blow to the illegal betel nut trade in the city. Senior officers said the crackdown will help curb crimes related to the sale of harmful consumables.
