
Nagpur: Acting on a tip-off, officers of Crime Branch Unit 3 on Thursday conducted a raid in the Nandanvan Police Station limits and seized a massive stock of prohibited nylon manja valued at over Rs 8.47 lakh. One person has been arrested in connection with the illegal storage and sale of the banned material.
The raid was carried out around 3:30 pm on November 27, 2025, near Lane No. 2, behind Hasanbagh Cemetery, Nandanvan, Nagpur, where the accused, identified as Hussain Khan Sarfaraz Khan (32), was found storing 565 spools of nylon manja labelled Mono Kite, which is banned by the government due to its hazardous impact on human lives, animals, and the environment. The seized material is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 8,47,500, while an additional Vivo mobile phone was confiscated, taking the total recovery to Rs 8,65,500.
Police have registered an offence against the accused under Section 223 of the IPC, read with Sections 5 and 15 of the Environment Protection Act, 1986, for possessing and stocking the banned product with the intention of sale. The accused has been taken into custody along with the seized property for further investigation by the Nandanvan Police.
The action was executed under the guidance of Ravinder Kumar Singal, Commissioner of Police, Nagpur, Naveenchandra Reddy, Joint Commissioner of Police, Vasant Pardeshi, Additional CP (Crime), Rahul Makanikar, DCP (Detection), and Abhijit Patil, ACP (Crime). The team comprised PI Mahesh Sagle, PSI Madhukar Kathoke, ASI Santosh Singh Thakur, HC Vijay Shriwas, PC Deepak Dasarwar, Deepak Lakhade, Jitesh Reddy, Chandrashekhar Dekate, and Pramod Deshbhatar.
Police said further investigations are in progress.
