Nagpur: The investigation into the alleged kidnapping and sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl has taken a fresh turn, with Hudkeshwar Police recovering eight types of sharp weapons, a laptop and a sizeable stock of contraceptives from the Thane residence of accused Nirmay Madhav Pakhare (19).
A team of Hudkeshwar Police recently searched Pakhare’s residence in Thane as part of the probe and recovered several knives, choppers, long blades and other cutting weapons. Investigators said the weapons were extremely sharp, with some apparently sharpened recently. The recovery has prompted police to examine whether the weapons have any direct connection with the alleged assault or other aspects of the case.

A laptop was also seized from the house and is being sent for forensic examination. Investigators hope its contents could provide additional digital evidence relevant to the case.
What has particularly drawn the attention of investigators is a box containing several varieties of contraceptives. Multiple packets were recovered from the box. Police are now probing why the accused had kept the weapons and contraceptives at his residence and whether the material has any connection with the alleged crime.
Police said Pakhare’s parents are separated and he had been living with his mother and elder brother. His mother is reportedly undergoing psychiatric treatment.
Meanwhile, Pakhare remains admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where his condition is stated to be stable. He was hospitalised on Wednesday night after complaining of chest pain during a routine medical examination. Doctors advised admission for treatment and observation.
His police custody ended on Thursday, following which a court remanded him to magisterial custody. However, he will be taken to jail only after his discharge from the hospital. Police said his hospitalisation has slowed certain aspects of the investigation.
Investigators are also struggling to access Pakhare’s mobile phone. According to police, the accused has refused to provide the password. Officers suspect that the device may contain crucial digital evidence linked to the case.
Police, meanwhile, have succeeded in unlocking the survivor’s mobile phone and are scrutinising her chats, call records and other digital data. The analysis is aimed at reconstructing the sequence of events and corroborating evidence collected during the investigation.
Pakhare was arrested after Hudkeshwar Police rescued the 16-year-old girl from a rented room in Dighori late Monday night. Police alleged that the girl had been held captive for more than 30 hours and was found tied up. She had sustained nearly 20 injuries, including wounds caused by a sharp weapon on her wrists and neck.
Police have alleged that the accused repeatedly sexually assaulted the girl during the period of confinement. Pakhare has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with charges relating to kidnapping and other relevant provisions of law.
The latest seizures, particularly the weapons, laptop and contraceptives, are now being examined as investigators work to piece together the circumstances surrounding the alleged crime.
