Nagpur cops bust gang of international burglars

Nagpur: In a first, Nagpur police busted an international racket of burglars and bullion traders, involving Bangladesh nationals, which was behind a housebreaking incident at Bajrang Nagar in city on January 6. The gang is likely to be behind several house-breaking cases in Nagpur, Mumbai and Gujarat.

One of the Bangladeshi nationals, Molla Mushtak Mozhar, along with bullion trader Ujjwal Patra were nabbed from Mumbai this week. The Crime Branch team under supervision of Senior Inspector Shyam Sontakke had gone to Mumbai with clues from cell phone analysis to nab Mozhar.

The police team recovered around 21 tola gold worth Rs 13 lakh, and 870 gm silver worth Rs 60,000 from the two. The recovery was more than the valuables stolen as per the report filed by the complainant, whose house was burgled in city’s Bajrang Nagar.

Those arrested have been identified as Molla Mushtaq Mojhar (40), a native of Kosad Gutal, district Surat, Gujarat, and Ujjal Chittaranjan Patra (33), a resident of Prathamesh Chawl No 05, Room No 06, Asangaon Road, Ganesh Nagar Diwa (East), Thane.

Molla Mojhar was staying at Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. Two other accused Shaikh Babu Dawood Shaikh (40), a resident of 90 Feet Road, Shivaji Nagar Depot, Mumbai and one Shamsher, a resident of Dongri, Mumbai, are absconding. Shamsher is a native of Kishanganj, Bihar.

The gang had burgled 211 gram pure gold worth Rs 12.66 lakh, 852.5 gram silver worth Rs 59,675 and two costly cell phones from the residence of Sunil Vinayak Timande at Plot No 101, Lane No 05, Bajrang Nagar, near Siddheshwar Hall, Ajni, on January 6 this year. Following a complaint lodged by Sunil Timande (63), Ajni Police had registered a case under Sections 454, 457 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

While conducting a parallel investigation, sleuths attached to Unit-04 of the Crime Branch got some inputs from Cyber Police. After analysing the inputs, separate police teams were sent to Surat and Mumbai to trap the accused. One of the teams nabbed Molla Mojhar from Mumbai. During questioning, he confessed to committing the crime with the assistance of Sheikh Babu Sheikh Dawood. Accused Ujwal Patra procured the stolen gold and other valuables. Police then recovered stolen gold and other valuables from Patra.

The arrests and recovery were made by PI Shyam Sontakke, PSI Avinash Jaybhay, PSI Zadokar and others under the supervision of Commissioner of Police, Additional SP (Crime), and DCP (Detection), ACP (Detection). Search for the other accused gang members is on.
