Nagpur: Panic gripped residents of Gayatri Colony after a nearly six-foot-long cobra was found hiding beneath the kitchen of a house on Monday afternoon.
The incident occurred around 2 pm, when members of the Songade family heard unusual rustling and hissing sounds coming from the kitchen. On checking the area, they were shocked to spot the highly venomous snake hiding underneath the kitchen.

Alarmed by the sight of the cobra, the family members immediately moved to safety and informed people nearby. Soon, a crowd gathered outside the house as the snake remained concealed inside the kitchen.
On receiving information about the incident, Shubham G.R., President of Wild Animals and Nature Helping Society and a wildlife rescuer, reached the spot. He carefully entered the kitchen and, using appropriate rescue techniques, safely captured the cobra without injuring it or putting the residents at risk.
After the successful rescue, the snake was subsequently released into its natural habitat.
The timely intervention brought considerable relief to the Songade family, as the presence of a cobra inside a residential kitchen could have posed a serious threat to the occupants.
Wildlife rescuers said the cobra is a highly venomous snake whose venom contains neurotoxins capable of affecting the nervous system. A cobra bite can be life-threatening and requires immediate medical treatment.
Residents have been advised not to attempt to catch, kill or chase away a snake if it enters a house. Instead, they should maintain a safe distance and immediately contact a trained snake rescuer or authorised wildlife rescue team.
