Nagpur: WICASA i.e. Western India CA Students Association, is continuously striving to serve the CA Students fraternity with the tag line – Keep Yourself Committed. It is rightly said that a perfect balance of curricular and co-curricular activities is crucial for the overall development of a student. And be it studies or sports, CA Students are known for proving their wit and skill in the field as well as the exam hall. Realising the need for promoting sportsmanship and providing a platform to showcase their sporting skills, WICASA 2016, ICAI Nagpur Branch, organised a football tournament for the CA students at DNC Ground, Nagpur.

CA Kirit Kalyani, Chairman WICASA, mentioned in his welcome remarks that WICASA Nagpur has always been keen to organise all sorts of events for ensuring fellowship and proper interaction amongst CA Students. He was happy to share that, this time he and his team are in full swing with untiring efforts and dedication. He appealed the student friends to stay in touch and also shared that many more academic and extracurricular events are lined up in the upcoming days. He also wished to have Girl CA Students to come forward for such sort of sporting events. In his opinion, no other platform, generally is there at the discretion of girl students to enjoy in such sports events.

CA Abhijit Kelkar, RCM from Nagpur, Chief Guest for the tournament, also graced the occasion with his persona. He duly remarked that the game football is all about teamwork, preparation, passion, attitude, dealing with failure and having a sense of humour as well at the end. He extended all the very best for the tournament.

As regards the event, it was a huge success as 6 teams of eleven students each, participated in the day long tournament and displayed excellent grasp of the game and superb skills with the ball. The event was played in 3 rounds-namely knock out rounds, semi finals and final. The best two teams namely- Vikings and Assassinors, made it to the mega final. Therein after a nail biting match, the Assassinors registerd their victory with a score of 1-0. The winning goal was scored by Saurabh Mukherjee, a CA Final student. The trophy for the highest goal scorer was bagged by Jeet Bhalla from team Vikings. An excellent example of sportsmanship was displayed by both the teams during the finals, when a member of team Assassinors got injured and all the players joined in to help. After the distribution of trophies and medals, the joy of winning was visible clearly in the eyes of Viplove Gattewar, the captain of the winning team.

The prize distribution ceremony was graced by senior Chartered Accountant, CA Ajit Gokarn, as the Chief Guest. He duly recognised the efforts of team WICASA for organising such a fruitful and fun tournament for the students and talked about how the senses of discipline we follow in a sport, contribute directly to the practice of the Chartered Accountancy Profession. He congratulated the winning team and the runners up for their unmatchable efforts on the field and wished them luck for their upcoming professional lives.

The event was attended by more than 100 CA Students. CA Sanjay Agrawal, Managing Committee Member, CA Asma Chimthanwala and CA Aman Jain were also prominently present. WICASA Chairman, CA Kirit Kalyani could not stop praising and recognizing the untiring efforts of his enthusiastic team comprising of Palkesh Khandelwal, Harman Raj Kaur, Shubham Jain, Suraj Madan and CS Yash Budhwani.
