Nagpur Audi crash: Sanket Bawankule, two others get bail at Police Station

Nagpur: On Sunday midnight, a recklessly driven Audi car collided with multiple vehicles in Nagpur. Sanket Bawankule, son of State BJP President Chandrashekhar Bawankule, along with Arjun Hawre and Ronit Chittamwar, were in the car during the accident. The police detained all three for questioning and later released them with a notice. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Rahul Madne from Nagpur Zone-2 provided details during a press conference.

According to DCP Rahul Madne, the incident took place late Sunday night in the Ramdaspeth area under Sitabuldi Police Station. The speeding Audi car crashed into a two-wheeler and several four-wheelers in front of Centre Point Hotel. After CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media, the matter gained significant attention. The car is owned by Sanket Bawankule, son of BJP State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Initially, it was observed that the car’s number plate had been removed, but later, it was found inside the car, according to DCP Madne.

Arjun Hawre was driving the car, while Sanket Bawankule sat in the passenger seat next to the driver, and Ronit Chittamwar was seated in the back. The police called all three for questioning, and the driver was arrested. He was later released with a notice after interrogation.

After the accident, the trio attempted to flee from the next intersection but were caught and beaten by local residents, Madane stated, adding that an investigation into this aspect is also underway.

Preliminary police investigation revealed that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the accident, as confirmed by doctors. Blood samples of all three individuals have been sent for further testing, added Madne.

According to DCP Madne, Sanket Bawankule has confessed that he was inside the Audi car when it hit multiple vehicles in a rash driving case. The police arrested the driver of the luxury car owned by Sanket Bawankule on Monday night. Arjun Hawre, Bawankule’s driver was later released on bail.

“The incident occurred at 12.30 am on September 9. A white Audi, registered under the name of Sanket Bawankule, was involved in the incident. We have questioned all three occupants of the car. We arrested the driver, Arjun but he was later granted bail as it was a bailable offence…Their medical samples have been sent for FSL, report is awaited,” the DCP Zone 2, Rahul Madne said in the press conference.

“When we examined the vehicle, its number plate was there. There were three people in the car — Arjun Hawre, Sanket Bawankule and Ronit Chittamwar…They (injured) were normal, their medical examination was done and nothing serious was found. Sanket Bawankule was called for inquiry and he has confessed that he was in the car,” the DCP said and added, Sanket Bawankule was returning from a beer bar in Dharampeth.

According to reports, Sanket Bawankule and the other two occupants of the Audi car were on their way back from a beer bar in the Dharampeth area. The police conducted medical examinations of the two people seated on the front seat after the accident.
