
Nagpur: Nagpur athletes produced a medal-rich performance at the 40th Maharashtra State Junior Athletics Championship at SVJS Dervan in Ratnagiri, securing seven medals, including three gold, two silver and two bronze, on the second day of the championship on Friday.
The city’s athletes dominated several track and field events, with Kashish Bhagat, Pranay Upase and Yash Bhute emerging as gold medallists in their respective disciplines.
Kashish Bhagat of KF Foundation led the charge by winning the Under-20 400m gold in 56.57 seconds. She was followed by teammate Pranay Upase, who clinched the U-20 1500m title, clocking 4:00.52.
The third gold for Nagpur came from Yash Bhute of Madhav Sporting Club, Kelvad, who topped the U-20 discus throw with an impressive effort of 43.56 metres.
Nagpur athletes added two silver medals to the tally. Abhimanyu Kushwaha of KF Foundation finished runner-up in the U-20 shot put, registering a throw of 17.58 metres. In the U-18 1000m, Janhvi Bawane claimed silver after completing the race in 3:06.39.
The city also secured two bronze medals. Kaushik Choudhary of KF Foundation finished third in the U-18 1000m, clocking 2:31.14.
Nagpur’s girls’ U-18 medley relay team also finished on the podium, winning bronze. The team comprised Janhvi Bawane, Poorva Bante, Kashti Meshram and Astha Wagh.
The strong showing on the second day has given Nagpur a significant medal haul and underlined the growing presence of the city’s young athletes on the State athletics circuit.
