Nagpur: A family was allegedly cheated of ₹10 lakh after a man promised to secure their daughter’s admission to an MBBS course at a reputed medical college, including AIIMS. The accused allegedly showed fake documents to convince the family that he could arrange the admission.
According to police, Dinesh Thakre, a resident of Kalamna, had a daughter who appeared for the NEET-UG examination. On August 1 last year, Ashish Gosavi, a resident of Durga Nagar, Bharatwada, allegedly approached the Thakre family and claimed that he could secure the girl’s admission to a reputed medical institution.

Gosavi allegedly assured the family that he could arrange an MBBS seat at AIIMS or other well-known medical colleges. He reportedly collected money from Thakre in instalments under the pretext of admission-related expenses, college fees and other charges.
Trusting the accused, the family allegedly paid him a total of ₹10 lakh.
Admission Never Materialised
When the daughter did not secure admission to any medical college despite the payment, the family began seeking answers from Gosavi. According to the complaint, he allegedly continued to delay matters, citing different reasons and claiming that the admission process was still underway.
As time passed, neither the promised admission was secured nor was the money returned. The family subsequently suspected that they had been cheated and approached Kalamna Police.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Ashish Gosavi under relevant sections, including cheating. Police are investigating the alleged fake documents and the financial transactions involving the ₹10 lakh payment.
