Nagpur: In a significant political development ahead of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) elections, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance appears to have fractured in Nagpur, reportedly over unresolved seat-sharing differences. The breakdown has triggered sharp reactions within alliance partners, with senior NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Duneshwar Pethe alleging that certain Congress leaders deliberately created obstacles in the seat-sharing talks to indirectly benefit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
As the political uncertainty deepens, nomination filing gained momentum on Monday. Congress candidates Kumud Praful Gudadhe, Kamalesh Lalokar and Shailendra Dorle filed their nomination papers from Prabhag 38. However, the Congress denied a ticket to former corporator from Prabhag 21, Nitin Sathawane, prompting a swift political realignment. In response, Sathavane has decided to contest the civic polls as a candidate of the NCP (Ajit Pawar faction).
On the other side, BJP candidates Bhushan Shingne and Sandeep Jadhav filed their nominations from Prabhag 11, signalling the ruling party’s preparedness as alliance dynamics among the Opposition remain unsettled.
With political equations shifting rapidly, the last date for filing nominations is December 30, up to 3 pm, setting the stage for an intense and closely watched civic contest in Nagpur.
