Nagpur: In a tragic incident a 32 year old woman allegedly committed suicide after drowning her son into a drum.
Lakshmi Sharma, 32, hanged herself from the ceiling rod using a scarf at her residence at Misal layout near Patankar chowk on Monday after hurling her nine-month-old son Sarthak into a drum filled with water and closed its lid. Relatives have now raised question on the manner in which two of Lakshmi’s relatives, aged 16 and 14 years, claimed to have brought her body down before putting it on the bed.
Family sources claimed that Lakshmi had tied the knot with Sandeep, a civil contractor, in city in 2010. The couple also has a four-year-old son Prince. There was no peace in the marriage as Sandeep used to harass Lakshmi on a regular basis.
Lakshmi’s elder sister Lata Dubey claimed that Sandeep would frequently vent his ire on her deceased younger sister under influence of alcohol. A source in the family said, Sandeep’s mother too had died under mysterious circumstances after being engulfed in flames.
The family is a native of Seoni in Madhya Pradesh.
Lata stated there were five persons, including Prince, at home when the woman ended her life before murdering her child but none of the family members had any inkling of the incident. “My sister was tall. It is baffling how two teenagers were able to bring the body down after untying it from rod,” said Lata expressing doubt.
“We had been always advising Lakshmi to separate from Sandeep but she preferred to stay on,” she said.
Police said Sandeep was at his site when the incident took place. He rushed back home on being informed. The family then alerted the police. Cops from Jaripatka police station reached the spot and sent the bodies to Mayo hospital for post-mortem.
According to a source at Jaripatka police station, a case of murder is going to be slapped on Lakshmi for having killed her son by drowning. “There is also possibility of registering a case of abetment to suicide as Lakshmi’s family members are complaining of harassment against Sandeep,” said the source.
