Nagpur: The Maharashtra State Pharmacy Council (MSPC), in a venture to serve an array of patients in a unique way, in collaboration of Pharmacy Department of KEM Hospital, established Patient Counselling Center at the Municipal Corporation-run Hospital on Wednesday (January 20). The Centre, first of its kind in the State of Maharashtra, was inaugurated by Sanjay Deshmukh, Additional Commissioner, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Dr Suhasini Nagda, Director of Medical Education (BMC). The chief guest of the function was MLC Jagannath Shinde. Dr Avinash Supe, Superintendent of G S Medical College and KEM Hospital, and others were also present on the occasion.

The KEM Hospital is visited by a vast section of patients for health care. The Patient Couselling Centre will provide vital information to patients as well as their relatives on various aspects such as how to take medicines, the timings, medication procedure, preventive steps for side-effects etc. Sometimes the medication errors do occur and these errors could prove dangerous. The Hospital, on its part, made available its space for the Counselling Centre.

The Maharashtra State Pharmacy Council, for running the Centre successfully, will provide necessary support such as basic facilities, trained personnel, database software on medicine information, computers, brochures, etc. The Centre will have one registered pharmacist who will provide counseling to patients. Initially, the counseling will be done about medication on brain complications and diabetes. Later, in a time-bound programme, all the diseases will be covered by the Patient Counselling Centre at the KEM Hospital.
