NAGPUR: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat referred to protests in France and developments in Albania, Nepal and Bangladesh while questioning whether regime change can bring lasting improvements in a country’s circumstances. He made the remarks during the RSS’s Vijayadashami programme in Nagpur on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, Bhagwat said a wave originating in the West was challenging established systems, civility and cultural values, and seeking to dismantle them.
“Look at what is happening in France, what is happening in Albania, and what happened in Nepal and Bangladesh,” Bhagwat said, citing these countries while discussing political and social upheavals.
He questioned the belief that changing a government or regime would automatically improve conditions, asserting that such an approach had not delivered the promised results in the past and would not do so in the future.
“People say that changing the regime will change the situation. But this has never happened. It did not happen earlier, and it will not happen now,” Bhagwat said.
His remarks placed the focus on the broader consequences of political upheaval and the belief that replacing those in power alone can resolve a country’s underlying problems.
The address was delivered during the RSS’s Vijayadashami celebrations in Nagpur, which carry added significance this year as the organisation marks the centenary of its founding in 1925.
The annual programme is one of the RSS’s major events, featuring traditional ceremonies and an address by its chief on issues concerning society, governance and national life.
