Pune: Amid the municipal poll frenzy in Pune, a pregnant MNS corporator seeking re-election, delivered a baby on Thursday, bringing unexpected joy to her family and near ones.

Rupali Patil, contesting from Shaniwar Peth-Narayan Peth ward on Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s (MNS) ticket for Pune Municipal Corporation polls, had to abruptly stop her campaign after she went into labour.

She was then admitted to a private hospital in the city where she delivered a baby boy
on Friday.

According to doctors, both the mother and the baby were doing good.

“My due date was March 5. However, the hectic activities during campaigning must have advanced the date almost by a month,” said Patil, who has a six-year-old daughter named Shaurya.

Patil said she plans to name her newborn Ransangram and she would resume campaigning two days after discharge from the hospital.

The Pune Municipal Corporation elections are scheduled for February 21 and the counting of votes will take place two days later.
