Nagpur: In a major action against human trafficking and sexual exploitation, Lakadganj Police rescued a 17-year-old minor girl from a brothel in the notorious Ganga–Jamuna red-light area late Thursday night. The girl, allegedly trafficked from Rajasthan, was being forced into prostitution. Police have registered a case against four accused, including two women, and arrested one suspect during the raid.
According to police officials, reliable information was received that brokers in the Ganga-Jamuna locality were pushing minor girls into the flesh trade. Acting on the tip-off, a police team raided the premises during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday and found the girl confined inside the brothel.
The victim was immediately freed from the custody of the accused and taken for a medical examination. She has now been shifted to a Government-run shelter home for counselling and rehabilitation.
Police have registered a case against the accused identified as Sajna Bunty Hemnani (52), a resident of Bhandewadi; Basanti Kalkhor (50), originally from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, and currently residing in the Ganga–Jamuna area; Balveer alias Mansaram Kalkhor (25), also from Ganga–Jamuna; and Tarun Hridayaram Gupta (21), a resident of Adilabad district in Telangana.
The accused have been charged with forcibly pushing the minor into prostitution. Police officials stated that Sajna and Basanti are believed to play a key role in trapping and exploiting minor girls for the flesh trade.
During the operation, the police safely rescued the minor and, after a medical examination, shifted her to a government-run shelter home for care and rehabilitation. Further investigation is underway, and police are also working to identify and trace other potential victims.
