Nagpur: Around 150 new jobs are expected to be created at MIHAN as two IT companies-Virtual Galaxy and Essent-move to expand their operations at the Central Facility Building (CFB) within the IT-SEZ.

Sources said Virtual Galaxy has taken an additional 8,000 square feet of office space and has received a Letter of Approval (LoA) from the MIHAN SEZ Commissioner’s office for its expansion. Recruitment for the new positions has already been completed, with preference given to candidates from the Vidarbha region. The expansion is expected to boost local employment while improving utilisation of existing SEZ infrastructure.

Essent has also initiated the process to acquire an additional 8,000 square feet at the CFB. Its proposal is currently under consideration, and official formalities are likely to be completed shortly. Once approved, the company is expected to scale up both its operations and workforce from its MIHAN base.

MIHAN’s IT-SEZ already hosts major IT players such as Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Technologies, and Tech Mahindra, collectively employing a large number of professionals. In addition, several mid-sized and smaller firms, including Hexaware Technologies, GlobalLogic, and Infocepts, are also operational within the SEZ.

MIHAN comprises both SEZ and non-SEZ areas, but plots in the non-SEZ segment are now almost fully exhausted. While the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) is working to attract aviation-sector investments into the SEZ, industry representatives point out that SEZ plot prices remain unaffordable for many medium and small enterprises.

With no land currently available in the non-SEZ area, several MSMEs interested in setting up units at MIHAN are unable to secure space. Industrial associations have therefore demanded that around 40% of the SEZ area be converted into non-SEZ to accommodate small and medium-scale units and sustain balanced industrial growth in the region.
