Nagpur: In the aftermath of a chilling dacoity incident at Rotkar Layout in Hudkeshwar, Nagpur, the city police authorities expressed optimism in solving the case as they delve into crucial technical clues. The incident unfolded in the early hours of Saturday, where a family fell victim to six armed dacoits who made away with Rs 8 lakh in cash, leaving one family member injured and others traumatized. Cops are also focusing on the insider role in the dacoity.
The targeted family, residing in a two-storey house in Rotkar Layout, faced the harrowing ordeal at approximately 2 am when the dacoits gained entry to the first floor. The armed intruders strategically locked a room, occupied by Amit Chandrakant Durugkar’s elder brother Swapnil, and disrupted the electricity supply to the house by tampering with the external meter.
Police, in a bid to crack the case, have focused on technical clues, scanning data from the cell phone tower in the vicinity of the Durugkar residence. Multiple calls were made from specific SIM numbers, prompting investigators to trace and procure details of the associated devices. The modus operandi of the dacoits, coupled with their apparent knowledge of the cash kept in the house, suggests a possible insider tip-off.
The armed assailants, who inflicted injuries on Amit Durugkar when confronted, also subjected his mother, Kalpana, to threats at knifepoint. The language used by the dacoits hints at a regional connection, with speculation suggesting they may hail from Nagpur or adjoining areas.
The Crime Branch and Hudkeshwar police have intensively questioned Amit and Swapnil as part of their ongoing investigation. Intriguingly, the choice of a relatively smaller house belonging to a middle-class family has raised questions, especially considering the presence of larger residences in the neighbourhood. The Durugkar family, primarily involved in a flower business, has been cooperative with the authorities.
