Fadnavis intervenes:
Meanwhile, the major showdown between Nagpur Metro Rail (NMRL) and Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRTC) got melted down and resulted in overcoming a hurdle on construction of a key Metro route at Ramjhula flyover thanks to intervention by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. A high-level meeting between the Chief Minister and disputing parties was held in Mumbai and the problem was hammered out paving the way for a speedy construction of Nagpur Metro route.
Now, the NMRL will go ahead in constructing a ramp adjacent to Ramjhula to connect the East-West corridor passing over Nagpur railway station and crossing the flyover near the station.

The company will undertake construction of about 200 metres of ramp connecting the flyover and in turn charge the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) the necessary project costs, officials said.

Since the alignment and integration of metro is equally important — seven pillars of maximum height of 16 metres are required — NMRL will lay the pillars for the corridor and also construct the ramp. This innovative and creative feat of engineering will produce an elegant piece of infrastructure at that location, stated NMRL Managing Director Brajesh Dixit and added that both Metro Rail and flyover (road over bridge) work will be completed within their respective deadlines.

Dixit said the metro rail construction is ahead of schedule at present. On North-South corridor, the civil work from MIHAN to Sitabuldi was going on at brisk pace and extension of this route will commence in March. “Design of nine stations on North-South corridor has started,” he said.

Metro ProjectTwo stations above ground to depict cultural heritage, rural India:
Designs of the two stations of Nagpur Metro Rail, coming up at Khapri and New Airport, have been finalized. Both the stations will be constructed above ground. The two station will depict cultural heritage of Nagpur and rural India as well. The colonial look of the Khapri station is patterned on the lines of Bandra railway station. The material required for the station would be procured from Saoner. The Saoner sandstone or Walua stone is used extensively to give elegant look of Nagpur Railway Station and later at High Court building and other structures.

Picture12New Airport station will sport a glass dome rooftop, stated Dixit. The idea is sourced from existing dome structures. The one is High Court building and other the famed structure at Deekshabhoomi. The plans for both the stations would be finalised within a week. “Apart from earlier geo-technical investigation of soil, re-investigation are conducted at actual pillar sites and this time we are going up to depth of 25 metres to ascertain presence of stone below the ground. Earlier investigation was held a distance of 500 metres and its depth was up to 25 metres.
