Nagpur: In a major crackdown on the rising narcotics trade in Nagpur, the Pachpaoli Police have busted an MD (Mephedrone) drug trafficking racket, arresting two accused, including a history-sheeter, in a well-planned operation.
According to police sources, the action was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs. A trap was laid near Shanichara Market in the Kamal Chowk area after police received credible information that a suspect would arrive to sell MD drugs. Acting swiftly, the police team intercepted the accused during patrolling.
The main accused, Nitesh Hedau, was apprehended along with a moped. A search led to the seizure of approximately 10 grams of MD drugs, a mobile phone, and Rs 12,000 in cash. The total value of the seized material is estimated to be around Rs 1.45 lakh.
During interrogation, Hedau reportedly confessed that he had procured the contraband from his associate, Jagdish Gokhale. Acting on this lead, police conducted a raid at an MHADA quarter in Kapil Nagar and arrested Gokhale as well.
Investigations have revealed that Hedau is a notorious offender with a criminal history, with previous cases registered against him for serious offences including attempt to murder, robbery, and dacoity. His involvement in drug trafficking has raised fresh concerns over the nexus between organised crime and the narcotics trade in the city.
Both accused are currently in police custody, and further interrogation is underway to uncover the wider network behind the MD drug supply chain. Police officials indicated that more arrests and seizures are likely as the investigation progresses.
The operation highlights intensified efforts by Nagpur Police to curb the growing menace of synthetic drugs, which continues to pose a serious threat to public safety and youth in the region.
