The accused have been identified as Dattu alias Dattya alias Rahul Ramesh Ramteke (19), a resident of Manav Nagar, Teka Naka, Nari Road; Rishabh alias Dadu Subhash Chafekar(23), a resident of Plot No 1, Aawde Nagar; Harshdeep alias Warlya Laxman Nagrare (30), a resident of Plot No 27, Kapil Nagar, Nari Road; Irshad alias Naushad Shaukat Ali (27), a resident of Sahayog Nagar; Santosh alias Papa Gauri Nakke (34), his brother Satish Nakke (37), both residents of Plot No 555, Kalpana Nagar, Powergrid Chowk, and Mohammad Bilal Kasim Ansari (38), a resident of Plot No 748, Kamgar Colony.

Around 11.15 pm on February 2, Dattu Ramteke met Mangesh Mendhe (45), a resident of Unnati Colony, Samata Nagar, at Sanyal Nagar, and demanded money to enjoy liquor. When Mendhe refused, Dattu whipped out a knife from his pocket and stabbed him thrice in the chest. Mendhe succumbed to his injuries before he could get any medical aid.

Kapil Nagar Police arrested Dattu on charges under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint lodged by Mendhe’s wife Nayana. Investigation revealed that the other accused, too, were involved in the murder case. Dattu murdered Mendhe at the behest of Santosh Nakke, Satish Nakke and Mohammad Bilal. Police then added an offence of criminal conspiracy against all the accused in the murder case.

The probe revealed that all the accused were also involved in several other organised crimes. Subsequently, cops slapped Sections 3(1)(i)(ii),3(2) and 3 (4) of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against them.

Further investigations are being conducted by ACP (Kamptee Division) Vishal Kshirsagar under the supervision of DCP (Zone-5) Niketan Kadam.
