Nagpur: The members of Congress district committee created a chaos at Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) on Tuesday over the rising cases of dengue in the city. The Congress members alleged sheer negligence on part Mayor Nanda Jichkar and covered her car with a mosquito net. They entered her cabin and covered the table with mosquito net. The protest was held under the leadership of Congress city president Vikas Thakre.

Congress city secretary Anand Tiwari said that the number of patients suffering from dengue had been rising every day but the NMC was not taking effective steps to keep the city clean. Tiwari said that the mosquito menace increases in the evening and the next day a rise in number of patients was recorded. But despite this, the NMC was not using fog machine. Rather than visiting different areas and making necessary arrangements to check the dengue menace, NMC health officers were sitting idle in their offices, Tiwari alleged.

He said that highly unhygienic conditions were prevailing in several areas in the city including Gorewada, Nirmal Nagar, Durga Chowk Sadar, Mankapur, Zingabai Takli, Dinshaw factory area, Ganga Nagar, Awasthi Nagar and Naik Talab. But these areas are mostly neglected by the NMC. The fog machine was never seen in these areas. It seems that the NMC had no value for people’s lives, Tiwari alleged.

When Mayor Nanda Jichkar reached there during the Congress agitation, Tiwari asked her as how she could compel the city residents to suffer due to the negligent attitude of the NMC. Jichkar said that the three officer of NMC were new and they didn’t have much information about the city’s landscape. The Congress workers became more angry on Mayor’s this careless response.

Looking at the situation, the Mayor summoned Health Officer Sheikh and directed him to visit all the areas and address complaints regarding cleanliness and spread of dengue within 15 days. She shared Sheikh’s phone number with the Congress workers and asked them to take updates from him directly.

Those participated in the agitation were Anand Tiwari, Kunal Puri, Monu Tripathi, Yugal, Aman Singh Bhamra, Rahul Chakradhar, Durgaprasad Lahori, Pranay Dhoke, Karan Meshram, Karan Mishra, Aniruddha Gajbhiye, Papa Mishra, Nilesh Chandrikapure, Charles Newarld, Zishan Qureshi, Robin Uikey, Guddu Netam, Junaid Ansari, Monu Mede and Chetan Savarkar.
