Gadchiroli: The Gadchiroli Police on Tuesday thwarted a major attack on security forces and government vehicles. The police recovered an IED, containing four kgs of explosives, which was planted below a small road bridge in the interior areas of Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra.

The explosion was thwarted after the police acted on a tip-off. Soon after, teams of BDDS (Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad) reached the spot and disabled the IED.

There were intelligence inputs that the Maoists, under the leadership Central Committee chief of CPI (M) Basavaraju could launch a major attack on the security forces in the district.

After the intel input, the security forces patrolled various places where the Maoist movement was suspected.

Since last month, there have been four incidents where government vehicles, construction material of ongoing road construction projects were set ablaze by the Maoists.

Last week, a school teacher was killed by the Maoists whom they suspected of being a cop. They later released an apology to the family seeking forgiveness for their actions.

The IED was planted in a cloth sack in shrubs below the small road bridge near the nullah and was barely visible. It was detected only after the intel input.

The location where IED was planted was barely one kilometre from the Chatgaon police post and is regularly used by security forces and C 60 Commandoes of Gadchiroli police for patrolling.
