Mango Vendors warned against chemical ripening

Nagpur: Food and Drugs Department has warned of strict action against fruit traders and shopkeepers who ripen the mangoes chemically with Calcium Carbide.

Assistant Joint Commissioner of Food Department Shashikant Kekre informed that a workshop would be organised for the fruits vendors and traders. He said that they would be informed of ill effects of ripening the fruit chemically.

He also said that the customers also need to recognise which fruits are ripened chemically and naturally. He informed that if the mangoes have lines on them then they have been ripened naturally and if the mangoes are just plain and yellow then they have been ripened with Calcium Carbide.
