Man with mouser gun, live cartridge arrested by Nagpur Crime Branch

Nagpur: In a swift operation, officials from Crime Branch Unit-IV arrested a man carrying illegal firearms near Hotel Mohan on Jabalpur Highway Road on Thursday night. The incident took place around 7:45 pm on December 4, 2025, while the team was patrolling within the jurisdiction of Wathoda Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off that an individual in a car (MH 31 CM 8341) was in possession of a firearm, the police laid a trap at the specified location. As they approached the vehicle, they found a man seated inside and immediately detained him. He was identified as Shilwant Bhagwan Sontakke (38), a resident of Padole Nagar, Wathoda Road, Nandanvan, Nagpur.

During a search of the vehicle in the presence of witnesses, police recovered a country-made pistol (mouser), a live cartridge, two iron knives, and two mobile phones. The items, along with the car, valued at approximately Rs 6,03,500, were seized.

Police said the accused was allegedly in possession of the firearm with the intention of committing a serious offence and had violated prohibitory orders. A case has been registered against him at Wathoda Police Station under Sections 3, 4, and 25 of the Arms Act, read with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act. He has been arrested and handed over to Wathoda Police for further investigation.
