Nagpur: Taunting a woman took a bloody turn when a young man was murdered in Mahalaxmi Nagar area under the jurisdiction of Hudkeshwar Police Station. The police have taken into custody two women and a youth in connection with the murder.
The deceased, identified as 28-year-old Ranjit Baburao Rathod, a resident of Dyaneshwar Nagar. The arrested persons include 25-year-old Akash Dinesh Raut from Hasanbagh, along with Jayashree Dipak Panjhade (24) and Savita Sayre (24), both residents of Wadi.
According to the police, Ranjit was employed as a cloth merchant and also owned a grocery store. The incident took place on a Saturday night when the two women arrived near Bakde Hall in Ola cab to purchase garments. Ranjit, standing near a paan shop, reportedly stared at the women and also taunted them, which provoked a response from them. An exchange of words ensued which escalated tensions. Amidst the heated exchange, Jayashree contacted Akash, the brother of her close friend Sudesh Dinesh Raut.
Akash promptly arrived at the scene and confronted Ranjit. In a burst of anger, he stabbed Ranjit in the chest and stomach. Ranjit collapsed in a pool of blood on the ground. Akash left the spot soon after. Hudkeshwar Police personnel rushed to the scene after receiving information. They rushed profusely bleeding Ranjit to hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Utilising CCTV footage as evidence, the police arrested the culprits and charged them under Sections 302 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Three goons attempt to kill man over enmity
Three goons attempted to kill a 40-year-old man with a knife over an old enmity in the Jaripatka area. With serious injuries on his abdomen and chest, the victim Nikesh alias Sai Brijlal Yadav (40) was rushed to Mayo Hospital.
A resident of Anand Road, Indora, Nikesh and his mother Savita (60) were sitting on a bench in front of their house around 9.45 pm. Three goons came on a two-wheeler. One of them got down from the vehicle and came near Savita. He threw chilli powder in Nikesh’s eyes and attacked him with a knife. When Savita tried to save her son, he also attacked her with the same weapon. As Savita shouted for help, people residing nearby gathered and tried to catch the three goons. But the three accused, including one Rakesh Bhanja, fled on their two-wheeler. Nikesh was admitted to Mayo Hospital.
After recording the statement of Savita, Jaripatka Police registered a case under Sections 307, 324, 34 of the IPC and launched a manhunt.
