Man from Amravati ends life at park in front of Fadnavis’s home in Dharampeth

Nagpur: A 52-year-old Amravati man died by suicide after consuming poison at a park in front of the personal residence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in Dharampeth on Tuesday evening.

The deceased, identified as Kamlakar Borkar, a resident of Kalyan Nagar, Amravati, was a daily wager. The reason behind the drastic step has not been ascertained so far as no suicide note was recovered from his possession, reports said.

On Tuesday around 6.30pm, local residents found Borkar lying unconscious inside Trikoni Park in posh Dharampeth locality. An empty bottle of poison too was found near him, said the reports. The locals soon alerted the security personnel deployed at Fadnavis’s house.

As per preliminary information, Borkar was an alcoholic and had separated from his wife due to the addiction, said police. According to police, Borkar shifted to Nagpur some 12 years ago. He was staying on roads, bus shelters etc as he had no place to stay, said the police.

Police said recently Borkar had met with a road accident. When his family came to know of this, they took him to Amravati. Being an alcoholic, he could no stay at home for long and returned to Nagpur, said the police and added that as he had not fully recovered after the accident, one of his legs had developed gangrene.

The Sitabuldi police conducted spot panchnama and sent the body for post mortem to Indira Gandhi Government Medical College and Hospital. A case of accidental death has been registered and police are probing further.
