Nagpur: Yashodhara Nagar police have booked a young man on the charges of demanding dowry and abetting his wife’s suicide. The deceased Santoshi Umesh Dhakate (27), had ended her life by hanging to ceiling fan with a sari in her resident situated at Yogi Arvind Nagar, Kamptee Road, on 18.12.2016. Police at that time had registered a case of accidental death and probing the matter further.
Investigations revealed that Santoshi’s husband Umesh Asaram Dhakate (30) was torturing her mentally and physically for not giving him gold ring in marriage. Fed up with the frequent harassment, Santoshi committed suicide on December 18.
Based on the investigations and a complaint lodged by Kanhaiyya Motiram Nandanwar (51), Santoshi’s father, PSI Rathod booked Umesh Dhakate under Section 306 of the IPC and further probing the case.
