Man Arrested for Blackmail and Extortion in Bajajnagar, Nagpur

Nagpur: The Bajajnagar Police have arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly blackmailing a 20-year-old woman and demanding ₹5000 from her by threatening to share her morphed photos. The incidents occurred between February 25 and June 17, 2024.

The accused, Samarth Parag Bhosale, resides at flat number 559 on Naik Road, Mahal.

Police reports indicate that the victim met Samarth on Instagram, and their online friendship quickly grew deeper. Exploiting this trust, Samarth allegedly coerced the victim into giving him ₹30,000 on various false pretenses, which he never repaid.

In June, Samarth demanded an additional ₹5000 from the victim. When she was unable to provide the money, he threatened to distribute altered, compromising images of her unless she complied. Distressed by these threats, the victim filed a complaint with the Bajajnagar Police.

Authorities have registered a case against Samarth under sections 386 (extortion), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), and 294 (obscene acts) of the Indian Penal Code.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
