Major move: State Govt fixes age limit for senior citizens at 60 years for availing slew of benefits

Nagpur: In a major decision, the Maharashtra Government on Tuesday reduced the age limit for senior citizens in the State from 65 years to 60 years to avail a slew of benefits that the senior citizens are entitled to. Announcing the decision in Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) the Social Justice Minister Rajkumar Badole said that the move will entitle over 1.16 crore senior citizens to enjoy benefits of various Government schemes.

The announcement to fix the age limit at 60 years followed a marathon discussion over a Call Attention Notice raised by Leader of Opposition Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and others under Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha Rule 105 over the issue.

Other members who moved the Call Attention Notice include Mangalprabhat Lodha, Ajay Chaudhary, Nitesh Rane, Nirmala Gavit, Vijay Wadettiwar, Amin Patel, Krupal Patil, Jitendra Avhad, Shashikant Shinde, Hasan Mushrif, Jayant Patil, Dr Patangrao Kadam, Sunil Prabhu, Medha Patil, and Yogesh Sagar.
