Nagpur: With the onset of Summer season the ill-effects of the intense heat has started showing in various forms in Nagpur. In one such incident a major fire broke out in the basement of Amar Jyoti Palace, adjacent to Mt. Carmel Girls School in in Dhantoli near Lokmat Square on March 26, 2015 at around 5:45 pm.
Three fire engines were pressed into service to extinguish the fire. Sources said that short-circuit was the cause of the major fire in the basement of Amar Jyoti Palace Building.
Many clinics, hospitals, offices and business establishments are based in the Amar Jyoti Palace. As thick smoke started emanating from the basement, on-lookers started gathering near the building.
The crowd went on increasing and soon the crowd caused a traffic jam in the area and the traffic cops had to come to move the crowd away so that the Fire-Department personnel could work unhindered.
Media personnel were deterred from entering into the basement and thus it prevented them in gauging the extent of damage to property. Fire Department also refused to divulge details of amount of loss pending enquiry.
