Nagpur: In Maharashtra Today on Tuesday the government has granted permission to Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited to procure Bagasse based Co-generation power through competitive bidding process, at maximum price Rs 5 per unit, informed Energy Minister ChandrashekharBawankule.

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) had submitted a proposal for purchasing Bagasse based and Bio-mass Co-generation power through competitive bidding process and now the state government has given permission.

Since the agriculture consumers demand is more from October to May so taking this into account MSEDCL submitted the proposal for buying power from Co-generation power projects at Rs 5 per unit by calling tenders. The state government has taken a decision in 2008 for 1000 megawatt co-generation power. MSEDCL has made an agreement to purchase power produced from 113 Bagasse based Co-generation power.

Presently, the rates of solar and non solar energy are decided by competitive bidding process. Due to this the rates of solar and wind energy are coming down. The state has granted permission to buy solar and wind energy through competitive bidding process. For the agreement of purchase of power government permission is must.
