Nagpur: The farmers, who bought the Soyabean seeds supplied by government agency Maharashtra State Seeds Corporation Limited (Mahabeej) for Khareef Farming, now seem to be repenting their decision as most of the seeds (species 9560 and 9305) have not sprouted. On the other hand, the farmers who brought the seeds from private companies are expecting a high yield considering sprouted seeds.
The affected farmers are now complaining the matter to the office of Agriculture Department. Every day, the number of complaints seems to be accelerating. As a consequence of the same, the problems of the officers of Agriculture Department have increased too.
As reported, only thirty percent of the Soyabean seeds sold by the government company have sprouted. The Agriculture officers, have visited several farms for inspection and a fully fledged report of the same will soon be submitted to the senior officers to identify the loophole.
The Soyabean seeds sowed, need to sprout within four to five days failing which, they are declared as dud. The same has happened to the farmers of the region who are now under massive stress.
