Nagpur: Mankapur police have booked a 33-year-old man for allegedly promising to marry a woman and then leaving her when she became pregnant. The woman claimed that the accused, identified as Shaikh Hafiz, lured her with promise of marriage and even forced her to divorce her first husband.

The woman claimed in her police complaint that Hafiz was a family friend. He started taking extra care of her and turned her mind against her husband. Hafiz lured her with marriage promises and asked the woman to divorce him. Hafiz even arranged for a lawyer to help her in the divorce procedures.

After the divorce, Hafiz shifted in with the woman and they stayed together. He forced her into a physical relationship. However, when the woman asked him to marry her, Hafiz handed over a ‘Nikah Nama’, a religious marriage certificate.

Hafiz started ignoring the woman when she told him she was pregnant since he was not ready to take care of her. The woman claimed that when she asked him about the marriage certificate, he told her that the certificate was bogus. Later, Hafiz asked the woman to leave the house.

Being helpless, the woman walked into Mankapur police station and filed a police complaint.
