Nagpur: In response to call given by NMC, the Lions Club will construct 50 personal toilets for women as gifts on account of Raksha Bandhan, said NMC women and child welfare chairperson Rashmi Fadnavis during a meeting held in Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Smruti Sabhagruh in NMC premises, on Aug 24, to review the progress of work by her committee.

She elaborated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi through his ‘Man ki Baat’ programme had called on all brothers to gift toilets to their sisters on account of Raksha Bandhan so that they might escape the humiliation caused by open air attendance to natural calls and also save them from health hazards. The NMC too had given similar calls to various NGOs, and the Lions Club has come forward to construct 50 toilets for women in the city. Others also expressed their views on the occasion.

The meeting was attended by Ruling party leader Dayashankar Tiwari, Sadhana Barde, Sujata Kombade, Pragati Patil, Sulochana Kovey, Jaishri Wadibhasme, Kumudini Kaikade, Sudha Iraskar, M P Kelkar (Sulabh International), Rajiv Adecha (Lions Club), Ashok Mate (Kriti Theatre) and NMC officials of various departments.

Confirming the commitment, Rajiv Adecha of Lions Club, said that 50 toilets would be provided to women to fulfill the NMC call.
