Nagpur:
Sending a strong message, the District Collector Sachin Kurve on Monday cancelled the license of tainted Cloud 7 Restaurant and Bar situated on West High Court Road in Dharampeth Extension. The action has been taken under Section 54 of Maharashtra Prohibition Act.

The Bar is being run by Bambrotwar family and it drew the stern action for violation of the Section 49 of Mumbai Prohibition Act 1953.

The Cloud 7 Restaurant and Bar was in the headlines recently when two sons of BJP MLA Krishna Khopde were charged with attempt to murder following a drunken brawl at the Bar that resulted in one person being stabbed to death. The clash erupted and unfolded through two incidents. The fight began in the lounge and ended at Laxmi Bhavan Square where 23-year-old Shubham Mahakalkar was stabbed to death. The incident left several more with injuries, including Khopde’s eldest son Abhilash, two cars from rival camps damaged. Shubham’s friend Akshay Khandare, 21, was grievously injured too in a knife attack which was perpetrated by one of the friends who had come in support of the bar management.

Abhilash, his brother Rohit, and their accomplices have also been booked for ransacking the restro-lounge.

The Bar is owned by Jagdish Ambowani while one Bambrotwar family operated it. Pramod Bambrotwar’s son, Sawan alias Sunny, managed the premises assisted by his younger brother. Sunny’s brother, a minor, is now under scanner for Mahakalkar’s murder. An offence of murder had been registered against the bar operator and his supporters. The clash started at the restro-lounge where Abhilash and his friends, identified as Akshay Lade, Swapnil Deshmukh and Mohsin Khedikar were enjoying a party. One of the waiters attracted the wrath of Abhilash and friends for having intervened into a dispute over alleged teasing of a woman. Later, Abhilash and his friends started complaining about slack service by waiters. The disagreement escalated when Abhilash started clamouring for discounts in the bill. As the management refused discount, an enraged Abhilash and his friends hurled cash towards Sawan, eldest son of the Pramod, triggering a fight. Sawan, along with his bouncers, thrashed Abhilash for the insult. This worsened the situation that flared up as Abhilash and his friends smashed a liquor bottle on Sawan’s head leaving him profusely bleeding.

The murder of the young boy hit the last nail on the Bar as the District Collector cancelled its license.
