In a major victory, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday won 38 seats out of 70 seats of the Latur Municipal Corporation, pushing Congress party to second position. Congress that had won 49 seats in 2012 polls, could retain 31 seats in the Latur Municipal Corporation election 2017. The BJP maintained lead on more than 30 wards since the counting for votes began for Latur Municipal Corporation election results at 10 AM. The outcome also came as a setback for NCP that bagged just one seat. The NCP had won 13 seats in 2012 polls. Shiv Sena also lost all 6 seats it had won in 2012.
The Latur Municipal Corporation election result is yet another jolt to Congress party that has been facing multiple defeats in elections across the country. With loss of 12 seats, NCP is also struggling to maintain its grip in rural parts of Maharashtra. On the other hand, the BJP continues to register victory after victory in Maharashtra and other parts of the country.
