Nagpur: Kalamna police arrested a man allegedly found roaming with a knife near Kalamna railway station and subsequently solved an e-rickshaw theft case with his arrest.
The accused has been identified as Omprakash alias Dhoku Suresh Nishad. Police seized a knife from his possession and, during interrogation and verification of his criminal record, allegedly uncovered his involvement in the theft of an e-rickshaw.
According to police, the theft took place on the night of September 18, when complainant Yogesh Masurkar was travelling towards Bharatwada in his e-rickshaw.
When he reached near Chikhli Gate, Masurkar parked the vehicle by the roadside before moving away briefly to attend to nature’s call. Taking advantage of his absence, an unidentified person allegedly drove away with the e-rickshaw.
The case remained under investigation until October 3, when Kalamna police received information that a youth carrying a knife was moving suspiciously in the premises of Kalamna railway station.
A police team reached the spot and apprehended Nishad. A knife was allegedly recovered from him.
During questioning, police allegedly linked him to the September 18 e-rickshaw theft. Investigators further claimed that Nishad used the stolen e-rickshaw for transporting stolen property and would hide the vehicle at different locations after disposing of the stolen material.
Following his alleged disclosure, police recovered the stolen e-rickshaw in the presence of panch witnesses, thereby solving the theft case.
Police have initiated further legal proceedings against Nishad and are investigating his possible involvement in other thefts and criminal activities.
