Gondia: Kidnapping of six girls hailing from poor and middle class families has created ripples in Gondia. Within a span of 48 hours, six minor girls were abducted from different police jurisdictions in the district.

Involvement of organised gangs, linked to human trafficking, is being suspected in the kidnappings. The gangs lure the innocent minor girls with decent jobs and lifestyle in Gulf countries and traffic them through dalals.

Six cases of kidnapping of teenage girls were registered at different police stations in Gondia district on March 16 and 17. A 17-year old girl, resident of village Bhadipar in Salekasa Tehsil was abducted by unidentified person on March 13. Similarly, a youth, native of Morshi in Amravati district, had lured a 19-year old girl with marriage promise and then took her away. The incident occurred in Ramnagar police jurisdiction in city.

A 17-year old girl, daughter of a labourer family, went missing after left home without informing anybody on March 17. Similarly, a 13-year old girl, resident of Marartoli in Ramnagr police jurisdiction, did not return home after she went to purchase a packet of snacks from a kirana shop in nearby Basantnagar on March 14.

One more 17-year old girl was kidnapped from Rukhmini Mandir of Sanjay Nagar in Chhota Gondia on March 13. Similarly, some unidentified persons abducted a 15-year old girl in front of a doctor’s clinic in Govindpur locality of Chhota Gondia. Initially, the relatives of the kidnapped six girls searched them frantically but failed to trace them.

Gondia police, after registering cases under Section 363 of the IPC, mounted a massive search operation to trace the kidnapped girls. Teams have been formed and every possible place is being scanned to find the girls as well as the kidnappers.

It may be recalled that incidents of kidnappings were reported in Amgaon Tehsil in 2012. Investigations had revealed that the poor families of the girls were lured of handsome money and their marriages were fixed with youths from other states. Later, the organised gangs took the girls to Dubai through Mumbai-Delhi routes for nasty business. The girls were then kept as maids in the houses of Sheikhs and exploited sexually.
