Nagpur: The Khaparkheda police and Crime Branch have intensified their crackdown following a violent clash between two rival groups in Khaparkheda, with nine accused arrested so far and more than 15 others still absconding.
The case, registered under serious charges including attempt to murder, unlawful assembly, assault and provisions of the Arms Act, relates to a bloody confrontation in Paunikar Gali in Ward No. 2 of Khaparkheda on the night of August 2.

The confrontation between the two groups reportedly escalated rapidly, with weapons allegedly being used during the attack. Videos of the violence subsequently surfaced, prompting police to step up the investigation.
In the latest action, Crime Branch Unit-6 arrested three accused, Hemant alias Sudama Madhukar Chafadhake, Shantanu alias Daddoo Bagde and Jitu Kanojia. Police also detained a 17-year-old juvenile in conflict with law in connection with the case.
Five other accused had been arrested earlier, taking the total number of arrests to nine.
Police said some of those arrested have criminal antecedents. Hemant alias Sudama had allegedly faced action under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) and had recently been released from jail.
Attack allegedly planned against two rivals
The investigation has also revealed an alleged gang rivalry behind the violence. Police said the clash was linked to an earlier rioting case in which Akshay alias Dagam Bhoskar was sent to Nagpur Central Jail following a court order, while Sumit Vanjal remains absconding.
According to police, the accused had allegedly planned an attack targeting Vanjal and Bhoskar. However, neither was present at the spot when the clash took place.
Police allege that the attackers subsequently launched a murderous assault on Himanshu Kadu, assaulted Rakshit Kapse and attacked Rohit Meshram with a knife.
CCTV, viral videos under scanner
Investigators are now examining CCTV footage, videos circulated on social media and call detail records to identify the remaining accused and establish their individual roles in the violence.
Police are also questioning people who were allegedly in contact with the accused and conducting raids at suspected hideouts.
Joint teams of the Crime Branch and Khaparkheda Police are continuing the search for the absconding suspects.
With nine arrests already made, investigators are now focusing on tracking down the remaining accused, including those allegedly involved in planning and executing the attack.
