Nagpur: Acting on secret inputs that wads of junked currency notes are being transported in a white-coloured Hyundai car, a team of Sakkardara police laid a trap near Chhota Tajbag and waited in ambush to pass the car. As the team spotted the car they signalled the driver to stop the vehicle. However, seeing the team of cops, the driver raced his car in order to dodge the waiting policemen. What followed was a hot chase.

The chasing cops managed to intercept the speeding car (MH-31/CN 9027) near Dr Vairagade’s residence on a road going towards Tukdoji Square. The cops found three occupants in the car who were identified as Shrawankumar Subramanyam (47) of Plot No. 24, Hindustan Colony, Amravati Road, Manoj Bhaurao Parve (41) resident of Plot No. 23, Harijan Colony, Bezonbagh, and Vitthal Vasant Chalwant ((39), resident of New Futala. The frisking of the car led to recovery of scrapped currency notes of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 denomination having a face value of Rs 53.44 lakh.

Three persons, who were carrying the notes, were detained. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Sakkardara Division) RR Kapgate informed that the three detained in this connection are traders. Police handed over the case to the Income Tax Department for necessary action, he added.
