The accused, Suraj Krishnaprasad Shukla, a resident of Imambada and a contractual NMC employee, had been stalking and harassing the girl, an ITI student, after developing a one-sided infatuation.

Police said Suraj had been following the teenager for days. Two days before the assault, he stopped her on her way to class and demanded to know whether she loved him. The minor firmly rejected him and informed her parents. Alarmed, the girl’s parents confronted Suraj in front of his family and warned him to stay away. Suraj pretended to agree. In reality, he was seething with rage.

On Monday morning, Suraj ambushed the girl at Ashok Chowk. Enraged that she had complained to his parents, he delivered a chilling threat: “If you don’t become mine, you won’t become anyone’s.” He then launched a savage attack.

Suraj smashed the girl’s head with a hammer, and as she tried to flee, he grabbed a cutter and slit her throat. The blood-soaked child screamed for help as horrified bystanders rushed towards her, forcing the attacker to flee.

Local residents alerted her parents, who rushed her to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). She remains under treatment for severe head and neck injuries.

The girl’s mother filed a complaint at Imambada Police Station. Police registered serious offences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder and assault, along with sections of the POCSO Act, since the victim is a minor.

Suraj reportedly wandered through multiple locations seeking anticipatory bail, but lawyers told him there was no chance of relief given the brutal nature of the crime and the victim’s age. Cornered, he eventually surrendered at the police station around 5 pm and was immediately arrested.

He was produced before a court on Tuesday and has been remanded to judicial custody.
