According to police sources, at around 6:30 am, Sushma Bagde, the female manager of the Vihar, arrived for prayers and found the gate locks broken. Inside, a 2.5-foot-tall brass idol of Gautam Buddha worth ₹15,000 and the donation box were missing. Outside, under a peepal tree, the broken donation box was recovered — but ₹6,000 in cash was stolen. The total value of stolen property was estimated at ₹21,000.
Based on CCTV footage and technical evidence, police identified the accused as Sagar Baban Borkar, a resident of Nagbard, Godhni (under Manakapur Police Station). Acting on a tip-off, a police team laid a trap and arrested him. During interrogation, he confessed to committing the theft along with an accomplice. Following his confession, the hidden idol was recovered and seized under a panchanama. The search for the second accused is ongoing.
This operation was carried out under the guidance of DCP (Zone-5) Niketan Kadam, ACP Satyawan Bandivar, and Senior PI Arun Kshirsagar by API Ashish Morkhede, PSI Maroti Jangilwad, and other police staff. Citizens have praised the prompt action of the police.
