New Delhi/Nagpur: Sheila Dikshit announced as the Congress Party’s CM candidate for UP. The state goes to the polls in 2017.

The announcement was made at a press conference today by senior leader and UP poll-in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad.

Speculations on the candidature have been ripe since last month after Dikshit met the Congress leadership in Delhi.

Prashant Kishor has been appointed as party’s poll strategist in UP and it is believed that he has suggested a Brahmin face be projected to represent the party in elections.

Accepting the candidature, Dikshit said she would have loved to have Priyanka Gandhi campaigning beside her. She also said leading UP is an uphill task and would do her best to fulfill the party’s expectations.
