Nagpur: The Union minister for surface transport, highways and shipping, Nitin Gadkari on Saturday admitted that it was near impossible to reduce the power tariff in Maharashtra.

Speaking after the interactive session held by MOIL, Gadkari said that electricity rates in Maharashtra were double than those in neighbouring Chhattisgarh and hence power intensive units were migrating from the State.

However, it was near impossible to bring down electricity tariff in Maharashtra because the condition of power sector in Maharashtra was extremely bad, he said.

“It is always far more easier to raise the electricity rates in Chhattisgarh than to cut down rates in Maharashtra,” he also said in a lighter vein hinting at BJP government in Chhatisgarh.
