Chennai:Income Tax department conducted a raid at Jaya TV and Dr Namadhu MGR (Tamil newspaper) premises in Chennai in a case of alleged tax evasion, ANI reported.
“The search is following reports of tax evasion,” NDTV quoted a senior official as saying.
The Hindu reported that searches are also going on at nine other places.
Jaya TV is controlled by the family of V K Sasikala and has been the mouth piece of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam for decades.
However, with the merger of the two AIADMK factions and sidelining of Sasikala in the party, the relationship between the channel and the Tamil Nadu government is strained.
