Nagpur: The Zero Mile Stone, the historic monument located in the geographical center of colonial India in the city of Nagpur is displaying its utter neglect. Due to the lethargy and lackadaisical attitude of such an important landmark situated in Nagpur, huge shrubs, grass and weeds are seen growing wildly near the pillar.

Some unscrupulous elements had even defaced the pillar. Fungi have grown in the top side of the pillar rendering the portion into black colour.

Many visitors from foreign countries come to see the pillar, since this is one historic monuments erected by the British in Nagpur. The British had used this point to measure all the distances. The Zero Mile Stone consists of four horses and a pillar made up of sandstone. It is located on the South East of Vidhan Bhavan, Nagpur.

The President of India Pranab Mukherjee is slated to travel on the route as informed by the Traffic Police, i.e. the road from Airport to Rahate Colony to Samvidhan Square (RBI Square) to Ladies Club Square to Raj Bhavan.

  1. Will he not be passing such an important landmark on his way to Raj Bhavan?
  2. What impression will he have about our civic authorities?

While trees and over-hanging shrubs are cut to make the roads clearly visible by the civic authorities, why is the landmark of Nagpur ignored?
