Is Nagpur living up to the Smart city name?

Nagpur: While everyone in the city is doing their bit for the environment, the city buses don’t seem to contribute in the same manner.

Lately, a lot of videos have been surfacing over social media of the state-run buses causing pollution. These buses are often seen releasing jet black clouds of smoke from the vehicles around the city. The buses are state-run but it seems like the concerned authorities have failed to maintain them in the city. Interestingly, as per sources, the buses are not fined by the police as well.

While the sales of electric vehicles have shot by 128 per cent in the last five months there is another problem which looms over Nagpur. The dire need of charging stations in the city. There has been a significant increase in the EVs in the city but no new charging station has been set up till now.

Total of 3,088 electric vehicles were sold in Nagpur in the 2021-22 financial year, while 3,954 new registrations were made in the first five months of 2022-23 at the RTO. People would be more willing to buy EVs if the charging stations were increased in the city, hence contributing more to the environment.
