International Basketball star Mihir Pandey in city on Wednesday

Former India power forward, Mihir Pandey, from Chennai will be on a
short one-day visit to Orange City on Wednesday. On a special invite of Dharampeth Krida Mandal (DKM) – champions of the (National Basketball Association) NBA 3X basketball championship which concluded recently at Hyderabad – Mihir will grace the felicitation function specially organised to honour the members of the
winning team.

It must be mentioned here that DKM cagers brought laurels to the city with a thumping title triumph in country’s first ever NBA-organized basketball championship in Hyderabad recently and have been qualified to play the four-state final in Mumbai on October 21 – a prelude for the NBA-Asia 3on3 basketball tournament.
The four-member champion team to be honoured by Mihir who conquered
the Hyderabad leg of the NBA event include Rahul Pisipati, Vihang Tapas, Rajat Pawar and Soham Meghe.Along with the felicitation of junior level players, DKM joined hands with Nagpur Amateur Sports Association (NASA) to honour one of city’s forgotten hero Suresh Gugre on the occasion.

For his long term association with the game Shri Gugre will be felicitated in a special ceremony to be jointly conducted by DKM and NASA. President of both
the clubs and corporator Sandeep Joshi will preside over the felicitation function in the presence of Anup Rajurkar treasurer Maharashtra State Basketball Association and Pranay Ghate secretaryNASA.
After the small felicitation, Mihir will conduct a three-hour coaching
clinic for all the cagers of Orange City FREE-of-Cost at the DKM
courts in Shankar Nagar. The camp and the function will begin at 6 pm.
Any player in any age-category and any coach can join the coaching
clinic which is free for all.

Having been the face of Indian basketball, Mihir has represented the country in many international basketball championships between 2003 and 2010. Currently playing for Tamil Nadu, Mihir is working as a
manager in IOB Chennai.
