The Rashtrasant  Tukdoji  Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has increased the intake capacity for 1st year admissions by 25 per cent this year. The State Government has directed the University to increase the intake capacity. This decision was influenced by the rise in passing percentage of HSSC (12th) results this year.  The significant rise in the passing percentage had left many students not getting seats in the colleges.

Taking into consideration that many students may not get admission, the University has increased the intake capacity. The seats are increased according to the University Act, 1994 83(3) (c). However, the colleges which are having basic amenities, and required teaching staff will only be allowed to increase the intake capacity.

Earlier, also the State government had allowed the University to increase 10 per cent seats. Wherein the condition was that the colleges who have applications more than the seats were allowed to increase 10 percent seats.

Even after this provision, the students are not able to get admissions. Hence, to accommodate these students, an additional 15 percent seats have been allowed to be increased.

Those colleges applying for another 15 percent increase  will have to file a proposal to the university along with the list of the students who have  already taken admission  in 10 per cent incremented slab.
