Indian Navy shows off its added prowress by successfuly firing BrahMos missile today

Today while the world was celebrating love, the newest destroyer of the Indian Navy INS Kolkatta fired the super sonic Brahmo missile which
proved successful in meeting all its required ‘targets’ of speed, stealth and accuracy.

The missile carrier ship which was commissioned on August 2104 was built to carry and deploy the latest generation missiles. It is the first destroyer of its type with two more ships in the pipeline.

The BrahMos is a short range supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines,, ships, aircraft or land. It is a joint venture between the Russian Federation’s NPO Mashinostroeyeniaand India’s DRDO who have together formed BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited. It is based on the Russian P-800 Oniks cruise missile and other similar sea-skimming Russian cruise missile technology. The name BrahMos is a combination formed from the names of two rivers, the Brahmaputra of India and the Moskva of Russia.

It is the world’s fastest cruise missile in operation.
